ZRP PRESS STATEMENT : 08TH JUNE 2026 – DROWNING INCIDENT IN BUDIRIRO 3 NEW STANDS, HARARE AND MURDER CASES IN NYAMANDLOVU, LUPANE

 The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the death of three people who drowned in a pit filled with sewer sludge in Budiriro 3 New Stands, Harare, on 7th June 2026.

One of the victims, Saul Karakadzai (19) and his friend were walking along a narrow pathway when they passed through the sludge pit measuring approximately three metres deep, seven metres long and two metres wide. Saul Karakadzai accidentally fell into the pit and drowned. The friend alerted nearby residents and the police, who swiftly responded to assist in retrieving the victim. During the retrieval process, two other bodies were discovered in the pit.

The three bodies have since been retrieved and taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. More details will be released in due course.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating murder cases which occurred in Nyamandlovu, Lupane, on 6th June 2026, in which two brothers died following a violent altercation arising from a dispute over a funeral parlour pamphlet.

Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the brothers had been given a funeral parlour pamphlet containing information on how to join the funeral service. An argument subsequently arose, with one brother accusing the other of intending to join Satanism. During the altercation, one brother allegedly struck the other several times on the head with a log.

The injured victim was later offered shelter by a friend and was found dead the following day. On the same date, the other brother was found lying dead under a tree with bruises all over his body. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding both deaths are underway.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges members of the public to resolve disputes amicably and refrain from resorting to violence.
