PRESS STATEMENT: SHOOTING INCIDENT AND THE ARREST OF TWO ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS IN CHEGUTU 21ST SEPTEMBER 2025

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a shooting incident and the arrest of Valentine Dipuka (30) and Tinashe Chimukono in connection with a case of robbery which occurred on 14th September 2025 at Newfound Turn-off, Gadzema along the Chegutu-Chinhoyi Road.

The suspects, who were driving a Honda Fit vehicle, allegedly rammed onto the back of a Nissan Caravan kombi along the Chegutu-Chinhoyi road. Subsequently, the suspects threatened the driver with machetes and stole USD 266.00.

On 19th September 2025, police received information on the whereabouts of the suspects and tracked them to Chegutu CBD. The suspects attempted to flee, leading to a high-speed chase. Police fired shots to stop the vehicle, which eventually came to a halt after sustaining damages. The suspects were arrested, while the other suspect, Tafadzwa Mumba died from gunshot wounds at a local hospital. The arrest led to the recovery of the suspects’ getaway car, a Honda Fit vehicle, registration number, AEQ 5393.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns criminal syndicates against fleeing from the police and engaging in confrontation with Police crack teams. It is in the interest of law and order for suspects to cooperate with law enforcement officers during arrests and scene attendance.
