ZRP PRESS STATEMENT : 25TH MARCH 2025 – UPDATE ON THE ARREST OF 14 SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF UNREGISTERED MEDICINES

Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police post on X, WhatsApp and Facebook on the arrest of 14 suspects for unlawful possession of unregistered medicines on 24th March 2025.

The suspects are, Justice Nyika (42), Prosper Maphosa (37), Clarence Ncube (27), Brenda Sango (35), Rumbidzai Chinyamakobvu (38),  Melany Gutsire (39),Tafadzawa Makwarimbna (36), Charles Kakomwe (34), Rufaro Munyanyi (42), Ephiphania Norest Moyo (43), Beauty Madamombe (52), Mascline Dziva (47), Portia Chimombe(38) and Tambudzai Shoko (37).

The suspects were arrested after the Police received information that a rigid truck registration number, AFG 3713 which was travelling from Bulawayo to Chinhoyi was containing drugs. The truck was intercepted at Murombedzi, Zvimba leading to the arrest of the driver, Justice Nyika and his two assistants, Prosper Maphosa and Clarence Ncube.

The driver and the two assistants implicated the other 11 suspects leading to their arrest in Braeside, Harare. Investigations by the Police established that the other 11 suspects were recipients of the consignment.

The arrest led to the recovery of the following unregistered listed unregistered medicines:-

  • 815 boxes of Broncleer
  • 77 boxes of Benyin Cough Syrup
  • 162 boxes of Adeo Salteryn Cough Syrup
  • 44 and half boxes of Astrapane Cough Syrup

The Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds the public for supplying positive information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
