Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police post on the X platform on a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 37 kilometre peg along Harare-Bindura Road on 18th June 2024 at around 1345 hours. Five people were killed whilst 13 others were injured when a Harare bound Toyota Hiace kombi with 17 passengers on board was involved in a head on collision with a Man truck carrying three passengers.
The collision occurred whilst the kombi was overtaking a Toyota Belta vehicle at a curve. Subsequently, the kombi went on to side swipe with the Toyota Belta vehicle.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the name of one of the five victims who was identified by her next of kin as:-
- Ruth Chakukura (70)a female adult.
The other four victims have not yet been identified by their next of kin. Some of the injured victims are admitted at Concession Hospital whilst others were referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Harare.
Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to nine in a fatal road traffic accident in which a Passion Link bus caught fire at the 26 kilometre peg along Nyabadza-Gandanzara Road on 16th June 2024 at around 1900 hours.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores drivers to observe all road rules and regulations and avoid recklessly overtaking along road curves when observation and judgement is clearly affected.
Above all, public service vehicle operators are urged to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling on the country’s roads to safeguard human lives.
