{"id":8258,"date":"2025-05-16T09:25:47","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T09:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zrp.gov.zw\/?p=8258"},"modified":"2025-05-16T09:26:44","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T09:26:44","slug":"zrp-press-statement-14th-may-2025-the-police-and-the-courts-take-stern-action-against-reckless-driving-in-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zrp.gov.zw\/?p=8258","title":{"rendered":"ZRP PRESS STATEMENT :\u00a014TH MAY 2025 &#8211; THE POLICE AND THE COURTS TAKE STERN ACTION AGAINST RECKLESS DRIVING IN THE COUNTRY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Zimbabwe Republic Police<\/strong> and the courts are now taking stern action against motorists who are recklessly driving vehicles on the country\u2019s roads, this include the Central Business District and built-up areas.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The action by police and court official follows the arrest and conviction of <strong>Alexander Tapiwa Kaseke (34)<\/strong> and <strong>Tichaona Dzvuvira (29)<\/strong> in Harare on <strong>29<sup>th<\/sup> April 2025<\/strong> and <strong>02<sup>nd<\/sup> May 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alexander Tapiwa Kaseke<\/strong> drove over a pavement at the intersection of R G Mugabe Road and Angwa Street. He negligently hit a traffic light (pole) and a vehicle which was travelling due north along Angwa Street. <strong>Kaseke<\/strong> was subsequently arrested by the Police and taken to court where he was tried, convicted and sentenced to <strong>36 months<\/strong> imprisonment for contravening <strong>Section 53 (2) of Road Traffic Act, Chapter 13: 11<\/strong> (Reckless Driving). The accused\u2019s drivers\u2019 licence was cancelled. Above all, he was prohibited from driving vehicles for <strong>24 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tichaona Dzvuvira<\/strong> was arrested on <strong>02<sup>nd<\/sup> May 2025<\/strong> after driving a public service vehicle with passengers through a pavement from Fidel Castrol Road into Bank Street. The driver openly showed reckless driving conduct without any regard for the safety and security of the vehicle occupants. Police were called to the scene and observed that the purported public service vehicle had no current vehicle licence, no vehicle insurance, no registration plates, had seven <strong>(07)<\/strong> missing wheel nuts, no rear windscreen wiper, no rear view mirror and openly showed fittings likely to cause danger to other road users.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect\u2019s case is pending finalization by the courts.<\/p>\n<p>With the advent of technology in policing which include drone usage and other gadgets, the day of reckless driving by motorists are coming to an end. Drivers of both Public Service Vehicles and private vehicles are once again reminded to be law abiding citizens and collectively contribute towards road safety for all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>(NYATHI.
