The Zimbabwe Republic Police<\/strong>\u00a0recorded the under listed road traffic accident statistics during the 2025 Easter and Independence Holidays compared to the same period in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

On Easter and Independence Holidays, a total of 384 <\/strong>road traffic accidents were recorded as compared to 286 <\/strong>recorded during the same period last year. The number of fatal road traffic accidents and people killed decreased from 26<\/strong>\u00a0to 21 <\/strong>and 27 <\/strong>to 24<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>respectively. The number of people injured went up from 159<\/strong>\u00a0to 178<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One of the road traffic accidents recorded during the 2025<\/strong>\u00a0Easter and Independence Holidays include the accident which occurred at the 51 km<\/strong>\u00a0peg along Harare Bulawayo road on 21<\/strong>st<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0April 2025<\/strong>\u00a0at around 1200<\/strong>\u00a0hours, where four people were killed, while 14 others were injured when a Toyota Hiace kombi which had eighteen [18<\/strong>] passengers on board, veered off the road and overturned. As a result, three [03<\/strong>] passengers died on the spot and one [01<\/strong>] died upon admission at Norton Hospital.<\/p>\n

During the period, three [03]<\/strong>\u00a0hit-and-run fatal road traffic accidents were recorded in Murewa and Harare. The first accident occurred on 19<\/strong>th<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0April 2025,<\/strong>\u00a0at the 57km<\/strong>\u00a0peg along Mutoko-Chidye dust road, when an unknown motorcyclist hit a pedestrian and sped off. The victim died upon admission at Mutoko Hospital. The second accident occurred on 20<\/strong>th<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0April 2025<\/strong>\u00a0along Harare-Bulawayo Road at Tynwald flyover when an unknown male adult was hit by an unidentified vehicle and died on the spot.<\/p>\n

On the same date, another accident occurred along Harare-Bulawayo Road, near Puma service station in Whitehouse, where a 66<\/strong>-year-old man was hit by a Nissan Caravan vehicle. The victim died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Group Hospital, and the driver of the vehicle did not stop after the accident.<\/p>\n

The Zimbabwe Republic Police<\/strong>\u00a0reiterates that motorists must stop, render first aid and report road traffic accidents to the Police. The police urges all motorists to be responsible on the roads and observe all road rules and regulations to safeguard human lives.<\/p>\n
