{"id":7905,"date":"2024-06-13T12:43:24","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T12:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zrp.gov.zw\/?p=7905"},"modified":"2024-06-13T12:43:24","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T12:43:24","slug":"zrp-press-statement-07th-june-2024-arrest-of-a-suspect-for-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zrp.gov.zw\/?p=7905","title":{"rendered":"ZRP PRESS STATEMENT 07TH\u00a0JUNE 2024 : ARREST OF A SUSPECT FOR FRAUD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Zimbabwe Republic Police <\/strong>confirms the arrest of <strong>Anesu Tauya Maponga <\/strong>in connection with a case of fraud which occurred in Chegutu between <strong>April 2024<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>June 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sometime in <strong>April 2024<\/strong>, the suspect purported to be a policeman and approached the unsuspecting victim whose husband had been remanded in custody for a case of robbery. The suspect charged <strong>US$1 500.00<\/strong>\u00a0so that he could facilitate the release of the victim\u2019s husband from remand prison by paying prosecutors , magistrates and court officials.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The suspect demanded a down payment of <strong>US$700.00<\/strong>\u00a0which he alleged he was going to give to his friend who is a Magistrate to commence the release process. \u00a0Resultantly, the victim was duped of <strong>US$470.00<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>03<\/strong><strong><sup>rd<\/sup><\/strong><strong>\u00a0June 2024<\/strong>, detectives from CID Police Internal Investigations acted on received information and arrested <strong>Anesu Tauya Maponga<\/strong>\u00a0in Chegutu Central Business District following a trap in which the suspect received <strong>US$50.00<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Zimbabwe Republic Police<\/strong>\u00a0implores members of the public to exercise due diligence when approached by individuals purporting to be members of the security services or court officials.
