{"id":7483,"date":"2024-03-15T14:53:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T14:53:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/zrpnew\/?p=7483"},"modified":"2024-03-15T14:53:40","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T14:53:40","slug":"zrp-press-statement-13th-january-2024-fatal-road-traffic-accident-at-the-35-kilometre-peg-along-mutare-marange-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zrp.gov.zw\/?p=7483","title":{"rendered":"ZRP PRESS STATEMENT \u00a0:\u00a013TH JANUARY 2024 &#8211; \u00a0FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AT THE 35 KILOMETRE PEG ALONG MUTARE-MARANGE ROAD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Zimbabwe Republic Police<\/strong>\u00a0confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on <strong>12<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong>\u00a0January 2024<\/strong>\u00a0at around <strong>1330 hours<\/strong>\u00a0at the <strong>35<\/strong>\u00a0kilometre peg along Mutare- Marange Road in which <strong>six<\/strong>\u00a0people were killed whilst <strong>12<\/strong>\u00a0others were injured.<\/p>\n<p>A Mazda BT50 vehicle with <strong>17<\/strong>\u00a0passengers on board, which was travelling towards 22 Miles, was hit from behind by a haulage truck while giving way to a stationery truck at Marange Turn-off. The driver of the haulage truck fled from scene.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Six<\/strong>\u00a0victims were identified by their next of kin as listed:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Anna Tariro Machangachanga<\/strong>, a female adult (<strong>30<\/strong>) of Sakubva , Mutare.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Joyce Duchi<\/strong>, a female adult of Mushunje Primary School, Mutare.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Portia Nyamajo,<\/strong>a female adult (<strong>43<\/strong>) of Chikanga 2, Mutare.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nomatter Hwenzira,<\/strong>a female adult (<strong>35<\/strong>) \u00a0of Mushunje Primary School, Mutare.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tsitsi Masuzhe, <\/strong>a female adult (<strong>47<\/strong>) of Dangamvura, Mutare.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Addella Henzira,<\/strong>a female juvenile (<strong>1<\/strong>) \u00a0of Mushunje Primary School, Mutare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bodies of the victims were taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for post mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>two <\/strong>people were killed while <strong>seven<\/strong>\u00a0others were injured when a Toyota Ragius motor vehicle with <strong>eight<\/strong>\u00a0passengers on board veered off the road, overturned several times and landed on its right at the <strong>28<\/strong>\u00a0kilometre peg along Harare- Chirundu Road on <strong>11<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong>\u00a0January 2024<\/strong>\u00a0at around <strong>0200 hours<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The two victims were identified by their next of kin as listed:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Melody Chikwanda<\/strong>, a female adult (<strong>30<\/strong>) of Budiriro 1, Harare.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clayton Wasarakunze<\/strong>, a male adult (<strong>40<\/strong>) of Budiriro 2 Harare.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bodies of the victims were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for post mortem while the injured are admitted at the same hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The Police implores drivers to observe all road rules and regulations and to ensure that their vehicles are fit to travel on the country\u2019s roads. Above all, the motoring public is urged to stop at all road traffic accidents and allow the due process of the law to take it\u2019s course and also to render assistance to the casualties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zimbabwe Republic Police<\/strong>\u00a0is appealing for information which may assist to arrest the truck driver who abandoned his haulage truck and fled from the scene after the Marange accident.
